The first noted Rebellion/Revolution against British East India Company's army took place on 10 May 1857, in the town of Meerut. We can say that this rebellion was India's First War of Independence. The persons who lead the revolt are:
->Mangal Pandey
->Rani Lakshmibai
->Bahadur Shah Zafar
->Ramachandra Pandurang Tope
Causes of the rebellion:-The main causes of rebellion are
1)Company officers provided ammunition of new Pattern. In new rifle, the sepoys had to open the cartridge by cutting it using teethes. It was believed that the were greased with fat which was marked unclean by Muslims, & untouchable to Hindus. The sepoys were forced to use the cartridge, & told that this is a rumor & the cartridge are free from grease(fat). This one of the main causes of rebellion. Mangal Pandey took the lead of this revolt.
2)Rani Lakshmi Bai gave birth to a son in 1851, but child died when he was about four months old. Raja and Rani of Jhansi adopted Damodar Rao, but Raja never recovered from his own Son's death, & died on 21 November 1853.
The company claims that adoption of Damodar Rao was not legal,& after the death of Raja company will rule Jhansi. Rani Lakshmi Bai refused this offer & fought with them. Ramachandra Pandurang Tope(also known as Tantya Tope) helped Rani Lakshmi Bai.
The main aim of this whole revolt was to get freedom from company & make Bahadur Shah Zafar king of Delhi. However this revolt was a failure & after this Control on INDIA was taken by the British Crown.
