1. Mehrangarh Fort


Mehrangarh is one of the oldest and largest forts of India. The fort was built by Rao Jodha, the founder of Jodhpur, in the year 1459. The Mehrangarh fort stands on a rocky hill at a height of close to 400 feet. The architecture of the fort introduces you to that era of Rajput supremacy when they ruled the Marwar region. The fort houses a no. of palaces like the Moti Mahal, the Phool Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Daulat Khana and Sileh Khana.

Mehrangarh has got a beautiful museum shop as well. The museum houses a wonderful collection of the antique artifacts that take you back in the history.

2. Jaswant Thada


Jaswant Thada is another beautiful monument in Jodhpur. It stands to the left of Mehrangarh on a small hill and a beautiful view of the fort can be captured from it. It was built in the year 1899. Jaswant Thada has been built from thin and polished sheet of marbles. It is an exquisite piece of architecture.

3. Rao Jodha Park


Rao Jodha Park is a latest addition to the tourist spots of Jodhpur. This park is situated near Mehrangarh, next to the road leading to the fort and further Jaswant Thada. It's a desert rock park. Rao Jodha Park was established in the year 2006. Unlike other gardens, this park gives you a feeling of little adventure as you walk on uneven terrains with rocks around you. The plants that you find here are specifically desert plants. You will get to see different types of flowers which grown in dry areas.

4. Umaid Bhawan Palace


This marvelous piece of architecture, also known as Chhittar Palace, is another one of the most sought places of Jodhpur. It is not only a residential place (royal family of Jodhpur lives here), but a hotel as well. The palace was built between 1929 and 1943. It is one of the largest palaces of India with 347 rooms in total. In the year 1972 the palace was divided into three functional parts by erstwhile ruler Maharaja Gaj Singh. One of them is now a 5 star hotel managed by Taj group. The second part consists of a museum and is open to the public. The royal family lives in the third part of the palace.

5. Mandore Garden


Mandore was, in fact, the capital of the rulers of Marwar before Jodhpur was founded. Due to security reasons, Rao Jodha decided to shift his capital to Jodhpur and the place was abandoned. Mandore is famous today for its lovely gardens and few historical monuments. It is a popular tourist spot during rainy season.

6. Balsamand Lake and Garden


Balsamand Lake is another very popular tourist destination of Jodhpur. The place consists of a lake, a beautiful palace and an exotic garden. Balsamand Lake was constructed by Balak Rao Parihar in 1159 AD to address the water problem of Mandore. The Balsamand Lake Palace is a heritage hotel now and is one of the popular ones in Rajasthan. The palace is made of red sandstone and is a fine piece of Rajput architecture. It was built by Maharaja Jaswant Singh I in the 17th Century.

7. Jodhpur Clocktower


Jodhpur clocktower, also known as Ghantaghar, is a famous spot inside city. It was built by Maharaja Sardar Singh more than 100 years back. The market near this place has been named Sardar Market after him. It is one of the oldest markets of Jodhpur. Here there are dozens of shops as well as hawkers selling different items. It is hub of major commercial activities of the city.

8. Umaid Garden


Umaid garden, also known as Public Park, is a famous garden in the city which has also got a zoo, a museum and a library. The garden is situated near the high court. The most famous attraction of the place is the zoo. It houses loads of animals and birds. There is a museum as well in the garden which has got armoury, portraits, ornaments, and other artifacts on display. A very old library, known as Umaid Library, is also situated in the garden.

9. Masuriya Garden


It is another very famous garden of Jodhpur which is situated on a small hill called masuriya. It is also famous among the devout people due to the centuries old temple of local deity Baba Ramdev. It is a popular picnic spot mostly during winters. There is a big statue of Veer Durgadas Rathore in Masuriya Garden. He is a famous folk hero of Marwar.

10. Kaylana Lake


It is a fresh water lake in Jodhpur. Majority of the city is supplied water through it. It is also a popular picnic spot for the local people. Kaylana is an artificial lake built by Pratap Singh in the year 1872. It lies 8 km to the west of Jodhpur. Boating facility is available here and so the visitors can enjoy pedaling in the boats. The place is also popular among the people who love watching different kinds of birds.
