Ashok Gehlot the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajastha is known for his straightforwardness simplicity and faithfulness to Gandhian values. Ashok Gehlot, was born on 3rd May 1951 in Jodhpur District of Rajasthan. He is son of Late Shri Lachman Singh Gehlot.
Ashok Gehlot is well qualified and is Science and Law Graduate. He is also MA in Economics. Ashok Gehlot got married to Smt. Sunita Gehlot on 27th November 1977. He has two children, a son (Vaibhav) and a daughter (Sonia). Ashok Gehlot's favourite Past time activities include Magic and traveling.
Ashok Gehlot believes in Austerity and does not believe in flamboyance and extravagance and wasteful expenses. He is also liked by people because he meets them directly at regular interval to know their anguish and grievances.
Political Profile and Career Ashok Gehlot
At a very young age Ashok Gehlot got inclined to serve the nation and joined active politics and social service. He got an opportunity to contest the parliamentary Elections from Jodhpur and was elected for the first time to the 7th Lok Sabha (1980-84) in 1980. Ashok Gehlot never looked back and went ahead to represent the constituency for several terms.
8th Lok Sabha (1984-1989). 10th Lok Sabha (1991-1996), 11th Lok Sabha (1996-1998), and 12th Lok Sabha (1998-1999).
In Assembly Elections also Ashok Gehlot has won many times and represented Sardarpura. Ashok Gehlot was reelected from the same Assembly Constituency on 4.12.2003 for the 12th Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha and on 8.12.2008 for the 13th Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha.
Profile Ashok Gehlot as the Union Minister
A leader with a Vsion, Ashok Gehlot has served in the Union Cabinets of many Prime Ministers including late Smt. Indira Gandhi, late Shri Rajiv Gandhi and late Shri P.V. Narsimha Rao. Ashok Gehlot was Union Deputy Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation from 2nd September 1982 to 7th February 1984 during tenure of Mrs Indira Gandhi.
Then he was Deputy Minister of Sports from 7th Feb. 1984 to 31st Oct. 1984 and again from 12th Nov. 1984 to 31st Dec. 1984. His hard work and vision brought him laurels and later he was promoted as the Union Minister of State, Tourism and Civil Aviation from 31st Dec. 1984 to 26th Sept. 1985.
Gehlot also served as Union Minister of State, Textiles with Independent Charge -a portfolio held by the Prime Minister himself. Shri Gehlot held this portfolio from 21st June 1991 to 18th Jan. 1993.
Profile Ashok Gehlot as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan
First tenure of Ashok Gehlot as Chief Minister of Rajasthan (1-12-1998 to 8-12-2003) was outstanding, among other things, for unprecedented drought management, power generation, infrastructure development, employment generation, industrial and tourism promotion, financial management and good governance.
During the famine in this tenure he managed the state exceedingly well and gave this slogan "Save Water, Save Electricity, Educate all".
For the second time Ashok Gehlot was sworn-in as the Chief Minister of on 13th December 2008.
