The Bikaner City was founded by Rao Bika ji in the year 1488 AD. It is basically a desert which is built on an altitude. Bikaner is bounded by a long embattled wall that has been pierced by 5 gates. The city of Bikaner has a splendid and marvelous fort that was constructed between 1588 & 1593 by Raja Raj Singh. The impressive fort dominates this city.

Rich historical and architectural legacy of Bikaner can be seen in its glorious and brilliant forts and palaces that are built and created with fragility in Redding-pink sandstone.
