Ajmer shariff is also know as city of Khwaja. The place is equally worshiped by both Hindus and Muslims. Ajmer is an historical,peaceful and beautiful city situated 100 kms from Jaipur, the Capital of Rajasthan. Ajmer's beauty and exquisiteness is unique because it is surrounded by small and enchanting hills of Aravalis. The Foundation stone of Ajmer was laid down by Raja Ajay Chauhan in the seventh century. The city of Ajmer was ruled by Chauhan Kings for many decades. Prithvi Raj Chauhan the main chauhan King was attacked and defeated by Mohammad Gauri in 1193. Prithvi Raj.

Ajmer city is also known for its communal harmony. People from all the religions visit the Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chistti and is pilgrimage for both Hindus and Muslims. Pushkar is another Pilgrim place with the only Brahma Temple in the world. Both Pushkar and Ajmer are recered equally by Hindus and Muslims a perfect example of communal harmony.

The famous school for the royals and noble Mayo College is also in Ajmer. The school was founded by the Britishers.

Places to Visit in Ajmer


Dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chistti is visited by devotees from all over the world. The belief among people of all religions is that if you ask for any wish from Khwaja it will get fullfilled. Dargah is just 1 Km from Ajmer Junction and lot of Budget and luxury Hotels are available in Dargah Bazaar which is also a famous shopping hub with lot of varities.

Taragarh Fort


Taragarh fort is yet another historical monument in Ajmer situated at the hill top of Aravalis also known as Nagpahari. The Picturesque view of the town from the hii top is delightful and magnificent. Inside Taragarh fort you will find another famous Dargah of Miran Saheb.

Adhai Din ka Jhompda


This master piece near Dargah Shariff was built in just two and half days, hence the name. After visiting Dargah do not miss this structure just 100 meters away.

Anasagar Lake


Named after the great Chauhan King, Anaji Chauhan Anasagar Lake is a beautiful landmark of Ajmer. The exquisite artificial lake was built with the assistance of local people of Ajmer. Shahjahan was so impressed and mesmerised to see the lake when he visited Ajmer. He was so delighted and amazed to see the beauty of the Anasagar lake that he buit pavilions on one side called Baradari. Baradari added to the beauty of the lake because of its unique piece of Mughal architecture made of marble. Shahjahan used to stroll with his wife in Baradari during his visits to Ajmer. Their is a lush green park with variety of fauna, flowers and trees that add to the beauty of Baradari and Anasagar Lake

Ajmer Museum


People excited to know about the history, wars,armour of Rajput Kings and Mughals should not miss Ajmer Museum. It also houses different sculptures during that time. Ajmer Museum used to be the residence of Mughal kings

Nasiyan or Red Temple


Nasiyan or Red Temple is a sacred temple of Digambar Jain Community. The temple is a beautiful architectureal piece with unique figures of legends of Jains and are gold plated. The temple has many precious gold and silver plated statues and other precious stones inside its hall.

Pushkar


11 Kms from Ajmer via Aravali hills is Holy city of Pushkar, a famous pilgrimage for Hindus. The only Brahma Temple in the world is located in Pushkar. Pushkar has a holy and a sacred lake. Thousands of devotees come to Pushkar to take a holy dip in the lake during Kartik Purnima. Pushkar has a big and very famous market which sells variety of apparel, garments, handicrafts and art works. The other side of Pushkar is surrounded by sand dunes. Pushkar Fair is the biggest event in Pushkar. It is the India's biggest animal fair called Pushkar Mela where other curricular activities and culture of Rajasthan is also displayed. Pushkar Mela is very famous among the people of Rajasthan and Foreigners.

How to Reach Ajmer and Pushkar


Ajmer is well connected from all parts of Rajasthan and Delhi by Road. It is just one and Half drive from Jaipur in 6 lane express highway. From Delhi buses to Ajmer are available from ISBT Kale Khan.

Ajmer Shatbadi from Delhi and other trains are available from Delhi and Jammu. Trains are also available from UP, Gujarat, Mumbai and other cities.

Nearest Aiport is Sanganer Airport Jaipur.
