Ban on Use of Plastic in Rajasthan

The use of plastic has been banned in rajasthan from August 1. This article gives information about it as well as the reason behind this move.

Rajasthan has joined the list of the states where the use of plastic has been completely banned. From August 1, the manufacture as well as sale and use of plastic is considered illegal in the state. With this move Rajasthan has joined the league of states like Kerala, Sikkim, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra where there is a ban on the use of plastic.

The voice was first time raised in May over the issue of use of plastic when it was observed by municipal corporations that plastic waste chokes the sewerage and drainage system in the cities which leads to water logging that in turn creates a haven for mosquitoes carrying virus of diseases like Dengue and malaria. The plastic is also hazardous to the environment since it doesn't decompose easily and become a cause of pollution. Animals like cows, and sometimes deer in the rural areas, also become a victim of plastic waste and lose their lives. Considering all these points, the ban on plastic products was sought.

From now on, no shopkeeper or vendor would use polythene bags to hand over the things to their consumers. If anyone is found to be violating this rule, he/she could be imprisoned for 5 years or will have to pay penalty up to one lakh rupees. Though there is some respite in the rule and polythene used for carrying food, milk etc. and those for the saplings in the nursery are not included in the ban.

Hi prateek,

This is a great move by the state government of banning the use of plastic bags. This ban will only reduce the use of bags but still the initiative taken by the government will have some effect.

This would help us in reducing the pollution in the state.

Thanks
